Cocktail of the week

Bloody Mary

Carnival parties are almost over and people might be feeling the effects of too much alcohol. This cocktail is a favourite to millions of hangover sufferers and is known throughout the world for the restorative effects of tomato juice. Harry’s New York Bar in Paris was its birthplace and legendary bartender Fernand ‘Pete’ Petiot created it in 1921. Most believe it was named after either by Hollywood actress Mary Pickford or the Bucket of Blood Nightclub in Chicago.

Ingredients:
5cl vodka
15cl tomato juice
2cl lemon juice
2 dashes of Worcestershire sauce
Pinch of celery salt
2 dashes of Tabasco
Black pepper

Preparation:
Pour the tomato, lemon juice and the vodka into a highball glass with ice in it.
Add the spices and stir.
Add a quick twist of ground black pepper and garnish with a slice of lemon and a celery stick (if preferred).
The only question is how spicy do you like it?
