Dust should go today

HEAD of the meteorological service Kyriacos Theophilou said yesterday the cloud of atmospheric dust plaguing Cyprus the last few days should disappear today.

Dust levels in the atmosphere were expected to subside from yesterday afternoon and return to normal levels today as a result of a change in the wind direction, according to Theophilou.
Lung specialist Evis Pagdatis warned that high dust levels accompanied by strong winds invited more respiratory problems among people, especially vulnerable sections of society like the elderly or recovering patients.

Theophilou added that the high temperatures experienced in the last few days would see a drop from today and would hover around 18 to 19 degrees till Sunday, where rain showers are forecast.

He noted that Cyprus had experienced 83 per cent of the average rainfall from October 1 until now.
