Would you walk out on £70 an hour?

THE 22 senior cabin crew that were given redundancy notices by Cyprus Airways earned on average £35,500 a year for working an average of only 12 hours a week, the airline said yesterday adding that they cost the company £880,000 per annum.

“That means for each hour they fly stewards are paid £70 pounds or in the case of a trip to London return, £630 pounds, a statement from the company said.

The airline said that the 22 employees would also receive around £170,000 each when they left the company with £40,000 each being paid in redundancy plus the remainder in benefits.
“With these regulations the company considers that it has fulfilled its obligations to the employees,” CY said.

Figures released recently showed that CY employees receive an average wage of £3,000 a month and that there were some senior staff that earned as much as £9,000 a month.
