Irish Coffee

One of the most popular Classic Cocktails, that falls in the category of the hot coffee drinks is the Irish Coffee. Joe Sheridan, head bartender at Shannon Airport, Ireland created the original recipe shortly after WWII.

Based on the traditional Irish drink, whiskey in tea, he substituted coffee for tea and added sugar and a layer of whipped cream for American travellers, including columnist Stanton Delaplane, who introduced it to his favorite bar, the Buena Vista in San Francisco. The first Irish coffee was served there in 1952.
