Man held over attempted murder

A GEORGIAN man has been detained in connection with the attempted murder of a 30-year-old Pontian in Paphos on Sunday, it was reported yesterday.

Reports said a second arrest was imminent last night in the same case.

The 30-year-old man was carried to the Paphos hospital emergency room by a taxi driver who said he had received a call from an unknown man to carry a patient to hospital.

The man had suffered heavy head injuries but he was also injured in other parts of his body, reports said.

The incident happened in the early hours of Sunday.

Police had a hard time identifying the injured man as he could not talk and various people called in for questioning refused to co-operate with the authorities.

Paphos police director Michalis Papageorgiou said the attempt took place at the man’s flat in Yeroskipou.

He said police wanted to question a second man who was in the taxi, which carried the victim to hospital.

It was the second similar incident in the space of several days.

In the first incident a comatose Pontian had been abandoned outside hospital.
