Chechen terror hoaxer arrested

A PRANK caller was yesterday arrested after putting police units onto full alert on Wednesday night after he falsely reported that Chechen terrorists would strike the Russian Embassy with missiles.

Assistant chief of Police Soteris Charalambous yesterday confirmed the reports were in fact a farce. The bogus warning said terrorists were going strike the embassy with missiles. Police cars were disposed outside the Russian Embassy all Wednesday night, with more cars patrolling the area and 130 officers put on high alert.

The prank caller is believed have taunted police in the past.

“We have prepared the case and we will have it in front of a Judge at the courts by the earliest today,” said Charalambous. “The case, however, may have to be delayed because of the holidays.”

The prank caller had made his warning 5pm on Wednesday afternoon saying that four Chechen terrorists had passed over from the north and were preparing to launch missiles at the Russian embassy in Nicosia.
