‘Entry should be linked to Cy prob’

GREEK Prime Minister Costas Karamanlis and Democratic Rally (DISY) leader Nicos Anastasiades yesterday agreed that every possible effort should be made to link Turkey’s European path with the Cyprus problem and promote the full normalisation of relations between Cyprus and Turkey through specific references to be included in the European Council’s final conclusions on December 17.

A press release issued by DISY said Karamanlis and Anastassiades agreed on a common framework of positions and principles to be highlighted when the European People’s Party (EPP) meets in Brussels this week before the EU summit.

Asked if a veto should be used to stop Turkey’s European course, Anastassiades replied: “We all wish to see a European Turkey.”

“I want to believe that improvements will be made in the conclusions text and that Turkey will hold a responsible stance, that will not allow anyone to think of a negative attitude” towards its EU course, he said.
