ELENI ANTONIOU gets on the phone and sorts out a selection of places to go this New Year’s Eve
WHAT are you doing on Christmas Eve? I am exhausted from being asked the same question over and over again. “I don’t know!” That’s my answer and I’m sticking to it, not because I don’t know if I’m clubbing or staying home but because there’s so much to do. Hopefully this will make it easier for you whether it’s food, drinks or staying in a hotel.
For those of you who feel like splashing out on New Year’s Eve and you are into the romantic mood, leave the kids with your mum and read on: Hilton is offering a double room on B&B basis for £145 and you can also have a nice meal as you choose from the many meter long buffet which costs about £39.75 per person, while listening to live music. Another popular hotel that has a reputation for luxury comfort and is one of my favourites (although I haven’t actually stayed there) is the Columbia Beach Resort in Pissouri. This place offers only suites, so you know you are in for a good time, with £230 for a junior suite plus breakfast, lunch and dinner. Reasonable enough with all that food and I have at least tried the food: it’s brilliant. A four-star hotel offering unbelievable prices starting at £20 a night is Crown Resorts Horizon in Coral Bay Avenue, Paphos. There is also a buffet costing £19 per person. Another high-class hotel in Paphos is the well-known Almyra, which is offering a seven-course meal of Asian delights at the price of £79 plus champagne (make sure you wear an elastic waistband). And for those of you who are planning on spending the night, a double room is £75 per person plus breakfast. On to Protaras, usually popular in the summer but Grecian Park Hotel is offering a lot for £40. You get breakfast and dinner that includes an exquisite menu and live dancing and music. Wait, that’s not all. You also get free entrance for the club Plin 2, which is very popular among the younger generation.
So, we slowly move onto clubbing and, most importantly, drinking. Blinkers in Nicosia will charge you a £20 entrance fee but you get a glass of French champagne. Probably best to book a table and go with your friends, enjoyment guaranteed. Zoo club in Nicosia, one of my favourite spots, also has a very good offer: £27 plus 3 drinks (that’s all I need) and if you want to book a table on the 4th floor, away from the youngsters, its £35 plus the three drinks of course. Cartel Club in Paphos, which was quite popular this summer, is a very good idea for those of you who want to keep the budget under £20. The entrance fee is £15 including two drinks. Gravity bar in Nicosia is spacious, cosy and it has drinks and food. There will be a special dinner with a set menu and a live jazz band until midnight. Costing £28 per person, you get a bottle of wine for every four people. It doesn’t close at midnight because on goes the party with a special DJ, so if you’re going for the drinks it’s £12 plus a drink.
Chester’s Pub in Limassol is popular with ages over 25 and although there won’t be entrance fee, there will be a five-course meal followed by a party. Drinks will be slightly more expensive than usual. Café La Mode is surprising us this year with a New Year’s Eve party until 10 o’clock with a buffet at £22 per person and £11 for children plus music by a popular DJ. Molly Malone’s in Limassol will not be charging entrance fee and drinks will be normal prices; however there will be a DJ to keep the party going.
And on we go to food, the delicious part of New Year’s Eve, especially when you are willing to splash out and have a five-course meal. First up is Abu Faysal, in Nicosia, where you can get the best in Lebanese cuisine. Prices will be normal, around £7, although there probably will be a surcharge of £5 because there will be a belly dancer and party hats. Now that sounds exciting! Bagatelle in Nicosia, which serves international food, is a also a top notch restaurant with reasonable prices. It’s £35 plus a drink, a five-course meal and a piano. Limassol’s Beige is an elegant restaurant; so feel free to dress up. There will be a five-course meal for £48 plus a glass of champagne. Holiday Inn and its restaurants are in the Christmas mood, so here are the different cuisine prices. Bonzai will have a buffet, charging £28 per person but the drinks will be extra. Vivere Ristorante will have a delicious Italian meal for the price of £33, so these people aren’t messing around. Marco Polo continues to serve well at £35, with live music. Pago Pago with its Polynesian cuisine offers meals per head at £28 so eat well and have fun dancing to live Cuban music.
Happy New Year with plenty of food, drinks and a lot of dancing!
