PHILELEFTHEROS: “Car theft”. A 25-year-old Limassol man reported his car window had been smashed while the vehicle was parked in a public area. The thieves stole a digital tape recorder valued at £100, a £200 mobile phone, a pair of sunglasses valued at around £5 and a woman’s bag, valued at £5, which belonged to a friend of his and contained a £30 mobile, a credit card and a key ring with two keys.
ALITHIA: “Denktash: Greek Cypriots saved us with their NO”. On Wednesday, Turkish Cypriot leader Rauf Denktash said the Cyprus problem was not a “Denktash matter”, but concerned 70 million people. He said if Turkey decided the Cyprus problem was a Cyprus issue, then the island would be lost within 24 hours, “just like Crete”. On that note, the Turkish Cypriot leader said the Greek Cypriots had “saved” the Turkish Cypriots from massive destruction with their ‘no’ vote to the Annan plan.
MACHI: “Robber was a drug addict”. Police believe a bakery robber was under the influence of drugs at the time he committed the crime in Limassol on Tuesday. The thief, who is described as around age 20, entered the bakery and, after threatening the employee, snatched £40 from the till. Police were told he was wearing a hood, had red eyes and was trembling, leading them to the assumption he was a drug addict acting under the influence. The bakery is located on Franklin Roosevelt Avenue in Limassol and at the time of the theft only one employee was on the premises.
POLITIS: “Young man raped 50-year-old”. Famagusta police are investigating an unmarried 50-year-old woman’s claims that she was raped. The suspect is believed to be a young man aged 25-30 of Asian decent, possibly from Sri Lanka or Bangladesh, and police have launched a manhunt for his whereabouts. The woman claims she was raped on Tuesday night when she found the man in her home, after he had climbed in the bedroom window. A doctor’s examination of the victim confirmed she had bruising and scratches on various parts of her body.
HARAVGHI: “Four-year-old in Intensive Care”. A four-year-old girl is in critical condition in Nicosia hospital’s intensive care unit following her involvement in a serious car accident on Wednesday. According to the accident report, the child’s 23-year-old mother drove into oncoming traffic on Strovolos Avenue in Tseri and collided headlong into another car. All passengers from both vehicles were injured and rushed to hospital for treatment.
