Interactive digital TV enters Cyprus homes

THE first digital interactive television service is now available in Cyprus.
MiVision, offered by the Cyprus Telecommunications Authority (CyTA), transmits digital picture and sound through a telephone line connected to your TV set and offers customers 17 foreign channels.

CyTA spokesman Paris Menelaou said: “This is Cyprus’s only interactive service and we already have 1,000 subscribers and another 1,000 in the pipeline.”

“Your TV becomes interactive giving you control over what you watch with unlimited options for entertainment.”

The service gives a range of popular channels, including news, sports, documentaries, music, fashion and entertainment, as well as cartoons, movies and a premium adult content channel.

It also allows customers to receive and send email via their TV, connect to the Internet, surf through their favourite websites and rent films from their armchair.
“You can pay £1.50 to rent the latest Hollywood films for 24 hours, and watch them as many times as you like,” Menelaou said.

The package costs subscribers £23 per month, with a special rate of £14 for existing subscribers of CyTA’s fast Internet service.

“It dispenses with the need for satellite dishes and aerials as it all comes through one telephone line. Subscribers will also get all local TV channels, except for MEGA, digitally, which means an improved picture quality.

“We’re constantly striving to improve the package further, adding more sports channels very soon,” he added.
