I felt obliged to respond to the email by the so-called Austrian Richard Melisch as it was so full of ignorance that people reading it could be easily mislead.

Berlin is not the second largest Turkish city and Vienna is certainly not the third. In truth, both cities are nowhere near the top 100.

Deeply insulted by comment by ‘Danes’ and ‘Austrians’

Comments made against Turkish EU membership by so-called ‘Danes’ and ‘Austrians’ (Letters to the editor, Sunday Mail, October 17) are pathetic attempts to scare-monger the public.

Unfortuntely they come at a bad time, in the post 9/11 period where islamaphobia coupled with Turkophobia are widespread.

Denktash calls Eroglu to form coalition

TURKISH Cypriot leader Rauf Denktash yesterday asked the head of a party opposed to Cyprus reunification to try to build a new ‘government’ following the resignation of pro-settlement ‘Prime Minister’ Mehmet Ali Talat.

Talat’s coalition, which quit on Wednesday, lost its parliamentary majority in April, two days after Turkish Cypriots voted in favour of the Annan plan.
