AKEL launches tirade against Politis

AKEL yesterday launched a bitter attack against Politis, after the paper on Sunday challenged party leader Demetris Christofias to substantiate his allegations that its journalists were on the payroll of the Americans.

Sunday’s Politis called on Christofias, currently the acting president of the republic, to back his claims that the daily was a paid agent of America.

Public transport costs rise in line with fuel hikes

PUBLIC transport costs are set to rise tomorrow after a decision by the government to increase tariffs following a surge in international oil prices this week.

The changes, announced by Communications Minister Harris Thrassou, mean fare rises of between 12 and 25 per cent on long-distance, rural and urban buses and taxis.

Man killed in crash

A 60-YEAR-old father of two from the Famagusta district was killed yesterday after his car was rammed violently on the side by a speeding four-by-four.

The collision was so violent that it almost cut the victim’s car in two.
