Family feuds end in shooting

TWO separate family disputes at the weekend saw one man hospitalised. Luckily none of the incidents ended in any fatalities.

There was almost a tragedy on Sunday evening as a jockey opened fired on his father at the Nicosia horse track in Agios Dhometios.

Reports say that a heated argument erupted between father and son after the races had finished and that a loud shot was later heard by bystanders who ran to the scene.

Also called onto the scene were officials of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) who began investigations as to what started the incident, as well as trying to ascertain why a gun was brought to the race circuit in the first instance. The father was not injured in the incident.

In an earlier incident in the Larnaca area, a feud between two brothers resulted in the younger brother, aged 13, shooting his 17-year-old brother in the stomach with his father’s air rifle.

The injured brother was taken to Larnaca hospital with minor injuries.
