Father jailed for killing daughter’s boyfriend

A LIMASSOL man was yesterday sentenced to 13 years in prison for the murder of his 16-year-old daughter’s boyfriend.

Forty-seven-year-old Stavros Michail from Alasa, was found guilty of the murder, around a year ago, of Andreas Charalambous, 20.

“They did their duty, I have nothing to say,” Michail said after the hearing.
The decision, however, enraged the 20-year-old’s relatives, who wanted a longer jail term for Michail.

“Are 13 years representative of my son’s, my baby’s life?

“Life was what he deserved,” said the victim’s distraught mother.

The crime took place on September 5, 2003 when Michail returned home and found Charalambous and his daughter having sex.

The two men argued before Michail grabbed his hunting shotgun and shot the 20-year-old at point blank range.

Michail initially faced a premeditated murder charge, which was then reduced to manslaughter.

The hearing was held under strict security measures though some scuffles did occur between relatives inside the court building.
