Macheras gets new Abbot

A NEW Abbot of Macheras was elected yesterday. On his appointment, Father Epiphanios, 33, stressed that he would continue the work of late Abbot Arsenios who was killed in a helicopter accident in a sea area near Mount Athos along with the Patriarch of Alexandria earlier this month.

“The monastery’s tradition and the heritage of our holy fathers is heavy,” Epiphanios said after his election.

Epiphanios was born in Nicosia in 1971 and graduated from the Pancyprian Gymnasium in 1988.

He was ordained deacon in 1999 by Limassol Bishop Athanassios and became a member of the Macheras monastery supreme council in July 2004.
