Celebrity golf tournament in October

JESUS OF Nazareth actor Robert Powell will join several other celebrities who are jetting to Cyprus for a star-studded charity golf tournament at the Secret Valley Golf Course on October 14 in aid of children with heart disease.

Other than Powell, among some of the big names arriving for what will be the island’s first ever celebrity tournament will be John Virgo, hailed as one of the most talented snooker players in the history of the game, TV cop stars Chris Simmons and Karl Collins from ‘The Bill’.

Several other big-name British actors have also pledged to play at the tournament, according to Paphos-based publicist Kizzi Nkwocha. The celebrity event, named the Kenny Lynch Golf Tournament, plans to raise £100,000 for The Cyprus Association of Parents and Friends of Children with Heart Disease, he said.

The fund raising gala on October 11 has been organised by International Golf travel company Off To A Tee with the help of TV star Kenny Lynch.

Nkwocha said: “This is the first time so many celebrities have arrived on the island at any one time for something other than a party. Many of the names coming to Cyprus are legends in their own fields. But all of them agreed to drop everything and take part in this gala charity event. This is a great cause and the tournament will be an opportunity for people to rub shoulders with the stars.”
