There is a price to pay for saying ‘no’

Sir,
There is nothing wrong with 76 per cent of Greek Cypriots exercising their democratic rights, as long as those 76 per cent know that there are consequences for every action.

Some Greek Cypriots, however, believe that being EU citizens means that they can impose their own kind of solution and that the Turkish Cypriots would be foolish enough to accept as they as so poor.

I’m sorry to disappoint those ‘no’ supporters who voted for this reason, as this will never happen.

What will happen is that the pro-reunification party in power in the north will lose in the next election and will be replaced by a pro-Denktash party.

This will mean a solution will be off the cards for much longer than we thought.
