Tired of all the criticism

Sir,

I am a Cypriot who was born in South Africa and have been living in Cyprus for the last 10 years. Initially, I used to quietly listen to English and South African expats moan and criticise Cyprus and the Cypriots. I have now reached a stage where I am tired and irritated by this disgruntled attitude.

I am Cypriot and I can see and accept our so called “errors”. What people have to realise is that they are the foreigners in this country and they should be able to accept the Cypriots for what they are.

What is different is in no way inferior and I think that this is where a lot of people come across as being so critical.

I am certain that things are not perfect in England or South Africa and at the end of the day we have all come here for a more secure future.

Admittedly, prices have gone up but I am sure that they have gone up in the UK and South Africa as well – nothing stays the same!

We have all elected to come to this friendly island and I am please asking all of you to stop and think before you are so fast with your “Cypriot” criticism: be positive, try to learn some Greek and respect the people and the country we have elected to live in.
