Three arrests for drug smuggling

AROUND one kilo of beige powder, believed to be heroin, was discovered by Drugs Squad Officials (IKAN) in a car which included two foreigners aged 31 and 28 and a 27-year-old Turkish-Cypriot residing in Paphos.

The car was spotted by policemen in a parking area in Limassol and, in a search that followed, a bag containing a kilo of beige powder believed to be heroin was found. It was was later handed in to IKAN.

The two foreigners, residing in Cyprus under political asylum, and the Turkish-Cypriot were remanded in custody. After interrogation, the accused stated that the substance found was heroin, which they were smuggling from the occupied north with the purpose of selling it.

The Drugs Squad is still investigating the matter.
