Three-day remand in pimping case

A MAN and a woman from Nicosia were yesterday remanded in custody for three days on suspicion of pimping.

Kyriacos Ioannides and Evridiki Vasilliou were arrested yesterday morning following the testimony of a foreign man who alleged that he had paid £55 to have sex with a woman from Uzbekistan, named only as Svetlana, who worked at their bar.

THOUSANDS of teenagers yesterday came to terms with the results of their eagerly awaited A-level and AS level exam scores. Cyprus was no different than any other country around the world, with students anxiously waiting for the publication of their British based Advanced Level results. Over 1,000 students flocked to their schools across the island to pick up their results.

Italian tourist drowns in Limassol

A 45-YEAR-Old Italian tourist drowned in the sea near his hotel at Amathus in Limassol yesterday morning.

Water sports operator George Demetriou noticed the man half an hour before the assigned lifeguard was to go on duty. The incident happened at around 9.30am.

Turkey decides to recognise Cyprus for EU business

TURKEY has taken a decision in principle to recognise the Republic of Cyprus within the framework of the island’s EU membership, CNN Turk reported last night.

According to the report, Ankara has decided to grant a “functional recognition” to Cyprus bearing in mind its own EU aspirations following the advice of experts on international law.

The relatives of 35-year-old Giorgos Kyriacou Panayiotou have blamed the lack of signposts and lifeguards for his drowning on Thursday in the coastal area of Dasoudi in Oroklini. The 35-year-old was found floating by other swimmers in the sea at around 5pm.
