Boucher on private visit to Cyprus

U.S. STATE Department spokesman Richard Boucher is currently on a private visit to the island, but will not be having contacts with local politicians.

There was no official announcement on Boucher’s visit and the US embassy has remained tight-lipped. However, informed sources told the Cyprus Mail, there were no plans for official contacts.

Boucher is a former US ambassador to Nicosia.

Deputy Government Spokesman Marios Karoyian also confirmed that the US diplomat had not asked for any meeting with Cypriot ministers or other government officials.

Local press reports had suggested that Boucher could meet during his stay here with key figures in the Cyprus society, in view of Washington’s further steps regarding the Cyprus question.
