Arson could be behind Latsia fire

POLICE are investigating a possible arson attack on Sunday, which destroyed 25 used cars at an industrial estate in Latsia.

According to a police bulletin, the fire broke out simultaneously at two separate points in an open area outside of a car warehouse owned by Mistubishi Fairways. The fire spread fast due to large amounts of dry scrub in the area, engulfing 25 used cars owned by the company. All the cars were destroyed. Their value is not yet known.

The fire was spotted at around 5.40pm after which dozens of fire-fighters and six fire engines were employed to put out the flames before they reached the Fairways warehouse. Inside were brand new cars and motorbikes worth millions of pounds.

The Nicosia CID and Fire Service are investigating the case. Arson has not been ruled out as the fire seems to have broken out simultaneously in two separate areas.
