Man arrested for illegally possessing cigarettes

A 35-YEAR-OLD man was arrested on Tuesday for questioning regarding the illegal possession of cigarettes.

The police stopped a car driven by the man, who is a foreigner, on the old Limassol-Paphos road. In a search of his vehicle, police found 61 cartons of cigarettes as well £258, $45 and 45 Syrian pounds in cash.

Police then obtained a warrant and searched the man’s home in Nicosia in the presence of his 26-year-old flat mate where seven stereos were found, two speakers, two aluminium radio components and other items that were kept as evidence.

The 26-year-old did not give a satisfactory explanation as to why the items were in their possession and was arrested by police. He was later released.
