Support programme for prison’s addicts

JUSTICE Minister Doros Theodorou yesterday welcomed a court’s decision to create a complete support programme for drug users sentenced to prison terms.

Theodorou said that the programme showed that there was a need to help prisoners who were drug users as well as pushers.

PORNOGRAPHIC video tapes and DVDs are being sold around the island in kiosks because the law does not allow the police to put a stop to it.

According to the law, pornographic material can be sold as long as it is wrapped in cellophane which makes it difficult for minors to access.

Weekend maintenance work on Limassol Avenue

THE MAIN thoroughfare leading out of the capital, Limassol Avenue, will be closed off to traffic tomorrow for two days for maintenance work.

The Public Works Department will cordon off sections of the avenue, which leads on to the Nicosia-Limassol and Larnaca highways, from 4pm tomorrow to 2pm on Sunday.

TWO foreigners were arrested yesterday in connection with a kiosk robbery and for possessing false documents. The crimes were committed between December 2000 and July 27 2004.

Man dies of injuries

A MAN on Wednesday succumbed to his injuries after a serious car accident that occurred on July 10 in Limassol, a police statement said yesterday.

77-year-old Ioannis Karaolis was being treated in the intensive care unit in the Limassol General hospital when he died.

Limassol police are investigating the case.
