Foreigners held in double murder attempt

TWO foreigners were arrested yesterday morning and held for questioning on suspicion of attempting to kill two brothers in Paphos on Sunday.

The two men were spotted yesterday entering a car stolen from the brothers at the time of the incident, which was used as a getaway car.

The men, who are 27 and 30 years old, are living in Cyprus and have filed for political asylum.

On Sunday at 4pm, the two brothers, aged 20 and 25, were at a petrol station in Paphos filling up their car when two strangers approached them and for reasons undetermined attacked them and then fled the scene with their car.

The 20-year-old was wounded in the head when hit with a rock and his 25-year-old brother was stabbed in the hand and the neck.

They were both taken by ambulance to the Paphos hospital but due to the severity of their wounds were transferred to Nicosia General where they are currently being treated.
The Paphos CID is investigating the matter.
