Man held over double rape claim

A 33-YEAR-old Nicosia man was yesterday remanded in custody for six days on suspicion of raping two Slovak women on Saturday night.

The two women, aged 18 and 19, arrived in Cyprus on Friday night. They had come for Bratislava to work and were picked up on arrival by their employer. On Saturday night, he drove one to Protaras and the other to Ayia Napa to sell flowers.
The girl who was driven to Ayia Napa on Saturday claimed he had taken her to a deserted beach, where he raped her and forced her to perform oral sex.

The second girl said she was raped by the employer on the way to Protaras . He also took her to a deserted area, where he allegedly raped her and forced her to perform oral sex.

After the ordeal, the two girls were taken by their employer to a restaurant in Ayia Napa, where he threatened to kill them if they spoke to anybody about the incidents.

The next day, however, the girls called two Ukrainians they had met in Protaras and told them what had happened. They then went to police and made a formal complaint.
Pathologist Sophocles Sophocleous examined the two girls and confirmed they had sustained wounds to their bodies and were justified in their claims that they had been raped.

The suspect denies raping the women.
