Man stabbed after interrupting thief

A 32-YEAR-OLD man reported to the police on Thursday that he returned from overseas to his apartment in Amathounda to find a stranger in his living room.

The man was searching through his apartment with his pockets bulging. As soon as the stranger saw the homeowner he attempted to escape, but was stopped by the man. He cornered the thief into his kitchen and asked him to empty his pockets which contained £400 stolen from the apartment.

The man said the intruder then grabbed a knife, stabbed him and escaped. The man went to the hospital where he was seen to and released.

The Limassol CID is conducting investigations.

Soldier dies of injuries

AN 18-YEAR-OLD National Guardsman has died from injuries sustained in a Paphos accident last week, police said yesterday.

Fotis Savva Yiangou, from Mouttallou housing estate in Paphos, died at around 10.15pm on Thursday.

Yiangou was critically injured 10 days ago when he was hit by a car while riding his motorbike on Agapinoros Avenue. He was rushed to Paphos general hospital, where he passed away. Police said Yiangou had not been wearing a crash helmet at the time of the accident.

Multiple thefts in hotels across island

OVER £3,000 worth of cash and valuables was reported stolen from three different hotels in a 24-hour period, police said yesterday.

The first theft was reported to Paphos police by a tourist, who told them that sometime between 8.30pm on Thursday and 12.30am yesterday, someone had broken into his hotel room and made off with £35 in cash as well as various electronic devices valued at around £1,065.

The second theft was reported in Ayia Napa by a 24-year-old tourist, who told police that sometime between 7pm and 8.30pm on Thursday, thieves broke into his room and stole his hotel room’s security box containing a ring valued at £1,000, as well as £500 and ST£330. A 17-year-old girl staying at the same hotel reported a mobile phone worth £100 had been taken from her room sometime between 7.30pm and 8.30pm on the same day.

Meanwhile a fourth foreigner reported thieves had also broken into his Ayia Napa hotel sometime between 8.30pm and 11.15pm on Thursday. The 49-year-old man told police the thieves had stolen various personal items valued at £300.

On the same day a 48-year-old foreigner also residing in the same hotel told police that sometime between 7.30pm and 10pm thieves had stolen £35 in cash and a mobile phone valued at £20 from his room.

Car thieves strike

A 22-YEAR-OLD Limassol man reported his car stolen sometime between 12.20am and 7am on Thursday, police said yesterday.
The Suzuki Alto, registration number BBM941, had been parked in open ground at the time of the theft, after suffering engine failure. The car was valued at £400, said police.

Limassol CID is investigating the incident.

Meanwhile in two separate incidents in Nicosia and Paphos, thieves broke into and made off with £1,500 tools from a warehouse in the former and £1,800 in cash and two computers valued at £2,000 from a construction company in the latter.

Theft and assault arrests

A 23-YEAR-OLD and a 20-year-old from Paphos were arrested on Thursday for questioning regarding theft and inflicting bodily harm and damaging property.

A 40-year-old foreigner told police that on July 4, 2004 that while he was in his car on Ayios Antonios Street a number of people attacked him and beat him. They also stole a gold chain from him worth, UK£200 and his mobile phone. The police are investigating the case.
