Fire breaks across divide

A FIRE that broke out in Lefka in the occupied areas at 2.30pm yesterday burned out of control, travelling over the Green Line to reach the Troodos mountains by 6pm.

The fire brigade battled furiously to put out the fire that threatened to torch the trees in the mountains. They also used two helicopters. It is unknown how the fire began or why it was not contained in the north.

‘Cleaners posing as vets’

IT WAS reported yesterday that electricians and cleaners are allegedly posing as vets in clinics that are inappropriate for treating animals.

The Animal Protection Association has received numerous complaints regarding medical neglect at the expense of the animals.

President of the association Toulla Poyiatzi said they have received phone calls from people who are unhappy with their vets and then discover the staff are not qualified.

“Unfortunately there are un-professionals practicing as vets on the island. They even put them to sleep. These are people who clean the building. They may also help with operations,” said Poyiatzi.

Green party leader, George Perdikis said the matter is urgent as they too are receiving complaints that animals are not being treated properly at some clinics.
