HARAVGHI: “AKEL is here”. The message that AKEL will overcome whatever problems and difficulties will present themselves was sent loud and clear by the General Secretary of the Central Committee, Demetris Christofias. Christofias said that the leaders of the party should talk in the same language “from top to bottom and vice versa” since decisions are taken jointly and he noted that there has been a lot of criticism from many members of the Central Committee about the “arbitrary public discussions some members of the party have had”.

ALITHIA: “Matsakis panic”. The Matsakis panic has not just taken over DIKO’s MEP who yesterday hastily tried to face the charges against him by filing a libel suit against the newspaper that brought the case to light. It has also taken over DIKO who are obviously troubled and are trying to rid themselves of the weight of their deputy by calling on him to leave of his own will. At the same time, the Justice Minister is asking for legal advice about lifting his political immunity.

PHILELEFTHEROS: “CIA agents meeting at police headquarters”. Fears of a terrorist attack on British interests in Cyprus have been expressed by police after certain incidents that have been observed for the past few days, while at the same time foreign secret services are examining information. Malevolent damage was caused to a branch of the British bank, HSBC, yesterday, resulting in police taking action because of the bank’s past history.

POLITIS: “Gagging operation”. Six days after Politis’ revelations about the alleged police blackmail by Marios Matsakis, instead of responding to the charges against him, the MEP has chosen to submit a libel suit against the paper. At the same time, Matsakis is trying to gag Politis by asking the court to issue a court order forbidding publication of any articles about the case that the police are accusing him of.

MACHI: “Satanist circuits in Limassol”. Shocking and revealing testimonies in relation to satanist circuits in Cyprus were presented in a TV programme by local station Capital TV in Limassol whose guest was Archimandrite Christoforos Tsiakka, secretary of the committee which deals with issues of sects in the church of Cyprus. As father Christoforos revealed, the satanists’ headquarters are in Limassol under the cover of an organisation called “Erevna” and have spread all over Cyprus presenting themselves as a social group.

SIMERINI: “War breaks out over financial measures”. The Finance Minister yesterday invited political parties, unions as well as organised groups and consumers to “tighten the belt” to save the economy and to succeed in converging with European criteria. The response was immediate: organised groups and consumers have already expressed their disagreement and warn that they will take measures. The next days will be difficult, foreseeing a ‘war’ about the economy.
