I rarely leave the centre of town, but this morning my agent asked me to take my portfolio to a printing company, to get some cards made up for clients. So I get myself a travel card and a bottle of water and join the crowds on the underground… When I get off at Liverpool Street everyone is wearing a suit and carrying a briefcase.

Court strikes blow against remaining roadside billboards

GREEN party leader George Perdikis yesterday applauded a Supreme Court decision that rejected advertisers’ appeals to be spared from complying with a new law to take down or push back their illegal billboards.

In effect, the decision will force the remaining advertisers to remove the billboards or face having them torn down by members of the public works department.

CTO warns tourist taxi rip-offs giving Cyprus a bad name

THE Cyprus Tourism Organisation (CTO) yesterday warned that profiteering at the expense of tourists would give the island a bad name.

Tourism Department Tourist Services director, Lefkos Phylactides, was commenting on reports that taxi drivers in the Ayia Napa district had been ripping off tourists by doubling their fares.

President knew about Matsakis case since April

PRESIDENT Tassos Papadopoulos yesterday conceded that he had known about the allegations that DIKO MEP Marios Matsakis sought £10,000 to ensure a police officer under investigation for attempted manslaughter would be acquitted.

Pressure grew on Matsakis yesterday, as the officer at the centre of the case challenged the deputy to deny that he had repeated conversations with him.
