When the Central Bank Governor, Christodoulos Christodoulou, warns that the public deficit and public debt need to be cut, these dire warnings deserve to be heeded. In shorthand, he is saying that the current Cypriot standard of living is not fully earned, which on the latest figures cannot be disputed.

Anastassiades backs down on complaint to Europe

DISY chief Nicos Anastassiades yesterday announced he was planning to withdraw his formal complaint to the European Parliament regarding the manner in which campaigning had been carried out in the run-up to the April 24 referendum.

Bomb wrecks former bishop’s car

THE FORMER bishop of Limassol yesterday launched an attack on his successor following an early morning bomb blast that wrecked his car.

Police said the explosion took place at around 3am and caused extensive damage to the Mercedes used by former Bishop Chrysanthos.

The car was parked outside his residence on Spyros Araouzos Street.

I live near Ayia Napa but rarely go into the town during the season.

Recently, a coffee house opened near the harbour which sells excellent coffee, and I’ve taken to spending the odd hour or so there several times a week while watching people ambling up and down the pedestrianised area, or observing the odd fishing boat passing beyond the small church.

Fikardos 2004

THEODOROS Fikardos harvested grapes for the first time in 1988 – there was just enough to fill up a barrel. His interest in wine making, though, grew year by year. Through the 90s Fikardos managed to become an established winemaker not only in Paphos and Cyprus but abroad as well. Wine connoisseurs from Finland especially enjoy his wines.
