DISY warns rebels to come into line… or else

DISY yesterday warned its dissident members that their divisive behaviour would not be tolerated further.

Several deputies, along with many DISY members, disagreed with the party’s decision to advocate a ‘yes’ vote and openly challenged the leadership by holding their own ‘no’ congress.

In a written statement yesterday, DISY stressed the unity needed to tackle the negative impact of the referendum result and warned those members that their behaviour would not be tolerated.

DISY said the same well known-members who had created trouble in the past were now taking advantage of the referendum result in the hope of turning the DISY voters’ choice into a vote of confidence for their personal ambitions.

The party congress decision was taken after careful consideration of the political state of affairs and the climate of stifling manipulation of public opinion, the statement said.

It stressed that the opposing view would be respected but the “specific known protagonists went ahead with an anti-congress through which they disputed the decisions of the congress and cultivated a climate of division”.

The dissidents “unfortunately continue” to engage in an unprecedented effort to use the result to divide the party.

“We urge the specific members for the last time, to realise that the members, voters and friends of DISY do not and will not tolerate the continuation of similar divisive behaviour,” the statement said.
