Grey Wolves head for Cyprus

TURKEY’S ultra-nationalist Nationalist Peoples Party (MHP) and infamous Grey Wolves say they will come to Cyprus “some time after April 15” to give their support to the anti-Annan plan campaign being led by Turkish Cypriot leader Rauf Denktash and ex-‘prime minister’ Dervish Eroglu.

MHP leader Devlet Bahceli has pledged to come to the island in support for the movement while Democratic Left Party (DSP) leader Bulent Ecevit, who was Turkish Prime Minister at the time of the 1974 invasion of the northern third of the island, will coordinate support in Turkey.

Ecevit recently commented that, “Cyprus is being stolen from us in broad daylight”.

Turkish Cypriot leader Mehmet Ali Talat yesterday said it would be “wrong for Turkish political parties to come to the island to attempt to influence the outcome of the referendum in the north”.
