Annan plan downloads bring website to a crawl

THE CYPRUS News Agency website ground to a halt yesterday as the site was flooded by people trying to download the Greek translation of the final Annan plan. A spokeswoman from the semi-government organisation said the increase in traffic was due to huge numbers of people logging on to see the Greek version of the plan for the first time.

The huge interest made it impossible to access the site, forcing CNA to put the bulky plan elsewhere.

The spokeswoman said the plan would be redirected to another site today to avoid blocking access to the CNA internet site, a news service provider for subscribers.

The translation has also been posted on the PIO website at http://www.moi.gov.cy/pio
and on the government’s official website on http://www.cyprus.gov.cy/

The UN has also posted the original English version of the plan on htttp://www.annanplan.org
