It may not be too late to register

Sir,
Regarding the letter from Stephania Stavri (‘Who will have the right to vote on the plan?’ March 24), I am wondering who told her it would take “maybe three months, maybe more,” to apply for citizenship in Cyprus?

I myself am an English born Cypriot. When I decided to apply for Cypriot citizenship at the age of 28, I was told it could take several days. In fact, it took less than three hours. It involved visiting three offices in Nicosia (including the court, to take an oath) and providing the relevant forms and documents.

The process would inevitably be delayed if the correct documents could not be provided, and perhaps during busy periods, but a suitable length of time has been provided to ensure that anyone who wishes to could register, and then be able to vote. There may still be time…
