Using the internet to enhance civil society

A BI-COMMUNAL Internet forum calling itself ‘e-voices Cyprus’ is inviting Greek and Turkish Cypriots to participate in an open dialogue on ways to use internet technology to “enhance democracy through citizen participation in decision and policy-making processes”.

The forum, which will operate in Greek, Turkish and English, will announce its plans at a news conference at the Ledra Palace hotel in Nicosia on Tuesday at 10am.

Organisers say those attending will be given the opportunity to discuss “co-operation and creative dialogue within a civil society framework”.

The initiative is an undertaking of the Movement for Political Modernisation and the Social Research and Consultancy Centre (KADEM). The project is also supported by Access2democracy in Greece and the Istanbul Policy Centre in Turkey.

Funding for the project is supplied through a grant from the Bi-communal Development Programme, which is funded by USAID and UNDP and executed by UNOPS.
