Hotel arrest

THREE foreigners were arrested in Nicosia yesterday in connection with refusing to pay the bill at hotel they were staying.

According to the receptionist, the three foreigners, aged 38, 41 and 55-years-old stayed at the hotel from Sunday to Wednesday and then refused to pay the £7,867 bill.

The three were arrested and brought before court, which ordered them to remain in custody until today when they will appear before court anew.

The Nicosia CID are investigating.

Firearm arrest

A 21-YEAR-OLD Paphos man was arrested yesterday in connection with the theft of and illegal possession of live firearm ammunition.

The munitions were discovered by drug squad officers during a search at the suspect’s home, police said. Officers found an assault rifle magazine, a 50mm round, two 7.62mm rounds and 12 blank rounds.

Aliens arrested

TWELVE foreigners were arrested yesterday following an island-wide police operation to locate illegal immigrants.

The 12 were detained in connection with illegal residence and employment as well as illegal entry into the country, police said.

Among the group was a 26-year-old woman arrested at 10am who was working illegally at a furniture upholstery shop in Nicosia. Her 50-year-old employer was also arrested.

At the same time a Famagusta court fined a man £860 for employing an illegal alien.
The foreigner was fined £200, police said.

Forgery arrest
TWO Indian men were arrested at Larnaca airport early yesterday morning in connection with illegal residence and forgery.

The two, aged 23 and 24-years-old, were detained for allegedly forging their travel documents and circulation of counterfeit documents.

Larnaca police are investigating.

Coal fire

THE Kofinou fire service were yesterday looking into a fire at a coal storage house in the village of Agglisides in the Larnaca district.

The fire broke out at around 6.30pm on Wednesday and was put out by two engines from the Kofinou fire station.

Police officers from the local station also helped in extinguishing the blaze,
The storage contained 85 tonnes of coal but the damages have not yet been estimated.
