PHILELEFTHEROS “Cyprus police at the Olympic Games” Cyprus police have offered to send staff to help with security for the Olympic games. The Greek government is examining the offer and has yet to give an answer but the police feel sure that they will be present at the Olympic games. Next month, the largest training course will take place with the CIA, the FBI and other foreign services to prepare for threats and possible terrorist attacks. Cypriot police have trained in the UK and the US and can offer the necessary protection.

POLITIS “Chinese mafia or theatre?” According to the paper Chinese students have been falling victim to robberies by compatriots. Police suspect that they might have been friends, as they knew about the apartment and where money was kept. The nine students told the police that at 10pm four strangers knocked on their door and entered wearing hoods. One was holding a gun and the others knives and they took $20,600 and two mobile phones.

MACHI “Rape after deceit” Police have launched a manhunt in Limassol to find the man responsible for raping a 28-year-old Russian woman. The woman’s description of the suspect has led police to search for a man who has been wanted by them on previous occasions. He speaks Russian and is a resident of Limassol. According to the victim, the man had asked her to pick up two children with him from Paphos airport. She agreed, but instead of driving to the airport went to a field and raped her. The woman only reported the incident to the police a few days later after she told her husband.

ALITHIA “Ireland prepares for tourism after solution” Irish inspectors are conducting a study for the CTO on the changes that will arise in tourism for the island if there is a solution based on the Anan Plan. The president of the CTO Fotis Fotiou said the study would involve suggestions on the organisation of the CTO in the event of a solution. Fotiou said their intention was to promote Cyprus as a tourist destination and not have any internal competition.

HARAVGHI “Today PEO demonstrates” A bicommunal cultural event organised by PEO will take place today entitled “The workers in the fight to reunite Cyprus.” Head speaker will be the director of PEO Pambis Kyritsis and president of the Turkish Cypriot organization DEV-IS, Ali Koule will also give talks. Turkish Cypriot veterans will then receive awards and a cultural event will follow.

SIMERINI “Attempted murder in Paphos” A murder attempt on two Palestinians took place two days ago in Paphos at an underground parking on Apostolou Pavlou Avenue. One man sustained stomach wounds and the second was injured to his thorax. They claimed five or six men attacked them with knives. Police later located four Palestinians entering a taxi on their way to Limassol and arrested them in connection with the case.
