Man held over stash of steroids in luggage

A 48-YEAR-old Indian man was yesterday remanded in custody for five days on suspicion of smuggling around 8,000 vials of steroids, worth over £400,000, through Larnaca airport.

Sadik Haiderali from Bombay was arrested on Wednesday after officers searched his luggage and found 8,060 vials of Sustanon, estimated to be worth around £400,000.
The man had arrived from Sri Lanka via Dubai and was due to transfer on to a flight to London when he was caught.

The court heard that a Pakistani man had paid the suspect to carry the steroids to his brother in London.

Police told the court they were investigating charges of importation of drugs without the permission of the health minister and attempt to sell drugs without the minister’s permission.

The suspect claimed he did not know that these drugs were banned in Cyprus.
Had he known he would not have brought them, he said.

Haiderali showed officers a document from the Dubai authorities, where he had allegedly declared the steroids.

Police said they would examine the document to establish whether it was genuine, pointing out it it was anonymous.

Sustanon is a combination of four different testosterones in one, which promises its user faster results.
