National Guard documents found on rubbish tip

DOCUMENTS containing architectural plans for National Guard observation posts were discovered on a rubbish heap at Tersefanou village, reports from Larnaca said yesterday.

According to the reports, the documents, in a sealed envelope printed with the stamp of the Republic of Cyprus, were found by two members of the public who handed them in to Larnaca police. The documents reportedly date from 1990.

It was the third incident of official government documents being dumped since the Papadopoulos government came to power nearly a year ago.
Last July, hundreds of top-secret Cabinet documents stashed in half-torn rubbish bags were found dumped outside the Health Ministry. The documents, left behind by the previous minister, were thrown away on the orders of current minister Dina Akkelidou.

Shortly afterwards, secret documents belonging to the Education Ministry were also found dumped in plastic bags outside the Ministry building.
