We should be encouraging more plumbers

I have just read with great interest and amusement Ambrosia’s Social Diary in the Sunday Mail (December 28).

Regarding her resolution number 5 (“Stop threatening my kids they’ll become plumbers if they don’t study – plumbers are handy people to have around”), perhaps she should actually encourage her kids to study in order to become plumbers, and a great deal of study they would need to do. There is a shortage of youngsters coming into the profession now; maybe it isn’t perceived as a “cool” occupation to follow.

I’ve been a plumber/heating engineer for 40+ years now and every five years it’s back to the classroom to redo all the exams in gas again and there is a constant need to up-date all aspects of general plumbing. However, the rewards are good.
