Protaras bar sets karaoke world record

A BAR in Protaras has entered the Guinness Book of Records after completing 30 hours of non-stop karaoke.

As the clock struck 4.23pm on Monday, Ayia Napa DJ Crazy Dave announced a new world record for the longest ever karaoke, beating the previous title holders from Limassol, who managed 28 hours of karaoke.

Crazy Dave and his gang from Woody’s Bar in Protaras raised £1,000 during the event for the Kidney Dialysis Association.

Pat Cooper, co-owner of Woody’s Bar, said “donations were collected from strangers off the street and all local shops donated along with Keo, Carlsberg and Coca-Cola. All my regulars were fantastic and everyone helped.”

“We had one hell of a party after we broke the record,” said Crazy Dave. “When I realised we were going to do it I choked on stage, it was all adrenalin. There was this boost of energy and I felt shivers down my spine when we broke it and the pub went mental.”

He added: “Members of the public were in such high spirits that people were prepared to wait up to two hours to sing one song and donors were willing to buy anything for a good cause. I was eating a pack of mints during the event, and said to everyone I would auction my last mint from the pack for charity. It got sold for £20, then the guy ate it.”

The results of the record will be sent off to the Guinness Book of Records in the next few days to officially mark the new record. If you have not donated to the Kidney Dialysis Association and would like to contribute, call Woody’s Bar on: 23-831690.
