The symptoms in adults are pains in the bones and muscles, headaches nausea and weakness. Doctors’ recommendations are bed rest until the symptoms subside. Symptoms of laryngitis in children are a cough and soar throat and can bring on asthma attacks. Again children need rest, although those with asthma will be administered medicine.
POLITIS: DISY has decided that Vlittis is out of control. Vlittis yesterday accused DISY of conspiring against him to get him out of power. Party leader Nicos Anastassiades apologised for the fact he had supported Vlittis in the last Municipal elections, and for refusing to support previous investigations against Vlittis. Anastassiades’ statement drew fire from the other parties.
ALITHIA “Scandal despite warnings” The Co-op Bank scandal in Polemi has sparked a criminal investigation by the Co-op movement. In September 2001, it was discovered that the General Secretary of the Co-op bank was not taking the necessary measures. Alithia reveals that the report by the Co-operative Investigation Services states that during August 2001 there was an imbalance in the accounting books with £2,810 left over. The books had last been checked in December 2000 whereas they are meant to be checked every month.
MACHI “Cyprus more expensive than France” Deputies proved that consumers in Cyprus pay 77.4 per cent more for their products than in France while the French earn twice as much as Cypriots. Meanwhile according to research by the Consumers Association, prices can differ by up to 70 per cent in different supermarkets, with deputies calling for legislation to ban profiteering. The president of the Consumers’ Association said he was in favor of such a law and said that there was a difference in prices of products of 50-60 per cent compared to other European countries where the difference was just three to five per cent.
HARAVGHI “Administration of general anesthetic stopped her heart” A 37-year-old woman lost her life after she was administered general anesthetic at a private clinic in Limassol. Eleni Zachariou visited a gynecological clinic on Monday for artificial insemination. According to her family, Zachariou’s heart stopped after she was given general anesthetic. A heart doctor managed to resuscitate her and she was moved to a polyclinic for treatment where she died on Tuesday morning. The police and the Health Ministry are investigating the case.
SIMERINI “Prices of used cars drop” After the decrease in prices of new cars, used car importers are now announcing that the price of used cars has dropped. The vice president of the used cars association Marios Frangos stated that used car owners would be advertising the decrease of their car prices to attract buyers. He stated that one car that used to cost £5,500 now costs £4,500.
