Man, 59, accused of illegal entry to north
A 59-year-old Greek Cypriot has appeared before a Turkish Cypriot ‘court’ in the occupied area of Famagusta on charges of illegal entry and being in possession of 70 shotguns.
Because of Ramadan, a hearing date was set for December 1 and the man was set free on bail of £400. His car was also confiscated. He was taken by the Turkish Cypriots to Strovilia and returned to the government-controlled area.
Bales destroyed in fireHAY BALES worth £6,000 were destroyed yesterday in a blaze at a farm in the Larnaca district.
Police said the fire started at around 6.30am at an open farm belonging to Larnaca residents Andreas Kyriakou and Kyriakos Constantinou near Kalo Chorio village. The bales were kept in a yard, but there was also some damage to a building. Police are investigating the cause of the fire.
‘Drunk man was in stolen car’
A 23-year-old Larnaca man has been arrested while driving a stolen car under the influence of alcohol after causing an accident on the main Kophinou-Larnaca road, police said yesterday.
At around 4.15pm on Friday, the suspect crashed into a car driven by 53-year-old Panayiotis Constantinou from Mesa Yitonia in Limassol. Although no one was injured in the collision, the young man fled the scene. Police soon tracked him down, and determined he had been driving under the influence of alcohol after giving him a breathalyser test. Further investigations revealed the vehicle had been stolen. He was arrested and held in 24-hour custody.
Car stolen in Paphos
A MAN reported his car stolen in Paphos on Friday afternoon, police said yesterday.
Andreas Mita told police his white Fiat Fiorino, registration number EEP 392 had been parked on Ellados Street in Paphos at around 2.10pm.
Police said the car was worth £2,000 and that the owner said it also contained tools and equipment worth £600.
Meanwhile another car reported missing on Wednesday was found yesterday in a field in the Nicosia district village of Yeri. The car’s radio and speakers worth £150 were missing and damage estimated at £110 had been caused to the vehicle.
