New tax proposals ‘will mean cheaper cars’

THE NEW tax proposals on cars look set to benefit consumers who will be able to buy new environmentally friendly cars at prices that are 19 to 21 per cent cheaper. But the proposals are also likely hit hard the market for all-terrain diesel vehicles.

They say a 19-year-old man and 20-year-old artiste were caught red-handed having sex.

I was treated like a second class citizen

Sir, I was born in Cyprus in the Larnaca district in a village called Kalo-Khorio, and I have been living in England since 1975. I have been a British citizen for the past 23 years. I began to visit Cyprus in 1990, and I was always treated deferentially by immigration officers. I was always asked how long I was going to stay and where I was going to stay.

Sir, I have recently returned from another great holiday in Paphos, but was extremely disappointed to see that the timeshare touts are now congregating in great numbers around the harbour area. We were near Coral Bay this time (we highly recommend the Neptune Hotel Apartments, especially the restaurant) but every time we went into Paphos town, we were accosted by these people.

93 jolly years?

Sir, It is, I suppose, pardonable for the Duchess of Devonshire (Books page, Sunday Mail, November 2) to regret that Anne de Courcy’s biography of her sister Diana (née Mosley) does not convey the aura of laughter that the Duchess recalls surrounded her. For the rest of us, choosing to marry Oswald Mosley in Joseph Goebbels’ drawing-room drowns out 93 years of jolly laughter. K.M. Kirk, Paphos

Are you ready to join the Step-Wives Club?

WHEN YOU are young and day-dreaming about your future, the love and marriage part of the fantasy probably doesn’t include becoming someone else’s second wife. And it’s unlikely that being a stepmother features in your dreams either. However for many this could be what the future holds. We are living in an age when the concept of togetherness has taken on an entirely new meaning.
