Mayor accuses DISY of plotting against him

PARALIMNI Mayor Nicos Vlittis yesterday lashed out at abuse of power allegations levelled against him, and charged that certain politicians wanted him to be removed as mayor because he had refused to issue building permits to companies they had invested in.

Vlittis accused DISY of conspiring against him and also blasted the party’s Political Bureau for not inviting him to their meeting on Friday when the allegations against him were discussed.
“There is an organised plot to eliminate me in Paralimni as well as in Nicosia,” he said. “That is why I was not invited to the party meeting.”

Vlittis alleged that DISY deputies Christos Pourgourides and Prodromos Prodromou had wanted to get rid of him for years.

Meanwhile DISY and the Ministry of Interior said yesterday they would not launch an investigation into the allegations against Vlittis until after an investigation by Auditor-general Chrystalla Yorkadji is complete.

Interior Minister Andreas Christou had initially said that the ministry was only looking into the allegations, but if new evidence linked to the allegations against Vlittis arose, a full scale investigation would be conducted.
