Man badly hurt in workplace blast

A MACHINE engineer was seriously hurt in an explosion at his workplace in Pyrga yesterday morning. Theophanis Theophanou, 46, from Yerolakko now living in Nisou, was trying to repair a machine part attached to an electrical device that heats it at Skyra-Lima, when there was a sudden explosion in the lift he was in ten metres off the ground.
Theophanou sustained serious head injuries in the explosion and was taken by ambulance to Nicosia General Hospital.
Doctors operated on Theophanous immediately, and his condition was reported yesterday as critical. Police at Kophinou are investigating the cause of the accident.
