Get ready to give for charity drive

GET ready to splash your cash: the Radiomarathon fundraisers will be out and about Cyprus on Tuesday and Wednesday, collecting money from people in the streets in aid of persons with special needs.

The hard work and dedication of volunteers and public donations have already helped raise £13 million since last year, putting Radiomarathon into the Greek Book of Records for the most money raised by a charity within a year.

Donations can still be made into the Laiki Bank every month or year by direct debit.
The Cyprus Broadcasting Corporation and the Cyprus Popular Bank have teamed up to sponsor Radiomarathon every year, raising £10 million since the launch and giving it all back to the people who need it.

There are too many events to list but Sunday’s ‘fair of love’ is one not to miss and it’s all for a good cause. The ‘fair of love’ will keep you busy with music, games, and food and television heroes and local talent singers willing to give you a hug, not to mention rides on a Harley Davidson. Catch it in the Nicosia Public Gardens and Limassol Gardens from 10am to 6pm and on the Larnaca beach front from 10am-8pm.

Over 55 kiosks in all the cities and many local schools have a ‘piggy-bank’ collection pot for contributions to the Radiomarathon, so the next time you go out to buy a carton of milk, you’ll know where to put the change.

Radiomarathon was started 13 years ago by a team of people who envisioned the creation of single institution that would offer essential support and love to children with special needs. Today, the institution has become a major national event, reflecting Britain’s ‘Children in Need Appeal’, which provides support to thousands of children.
First Lady Fotini Papadopoulou, Chairman of Radiomarathon 2003, told the Cyprus Mail: “It is you the people that can only make their dreams come true.”
