Journalist ‘attacked by Grey Wolves’
TURKISH Cypriot press reports yesterday said a journalist, Murat Kanatli, was attacked and had his camera stolen during a march by the nationalist Grey Wolves organisation in the occupied part of Nicosia.
The protest on Friday was over charges that the United States and Britain were trying to influence the outcome of December’s general election in the north.
The demonstrators laid a black wreath outside the office used by the American Embassy before marching towards the Ledra Palace Hotel, voicing their opposition to the US, British and the European Union policies on the Cyprus problem.
During the march protesters attacked Kanatli, hit him on the shoulders and took his camera, the reports said.
