New Polis motorway pointless, say Greens

WORK to construct a Paphos to Polis Chrysochous motorway will begin within two years, it was reported this week. But the news has been attacked by environmentalists, who call it a pointless project. The new road will be designed to cope with the development boom in the area and also to reduce the current high rate of accidents on the existing road.

Man remanded after pot plants found

A NICOSIA court yesterday remanded a 25-year-old Nicosia man in custody for four days in connection with the cultivation of 45 cannabis plants, police said. The man was arrested at 8.20am near the old Nicosia airport while allegedly attending to the plants, which were inside 36 pots. The plants were between three and 10 centimetres high and concealed under nylon.

Anti-violence fundraiser today

THE ASSOCIATION for the Prevention and Handling of Violence in the Family is holding its annual fundraiser in Nicosia today. The event, from 12 noon to 6pm, is held in Aglandjia Park near the Filoxenia hotel. Money raised is used to replenish the non-governmental organisation’s coffers.
